This sorta happened to my great grandma. Her husband died in 1977. They went ahead and prefilled in the head stone with her info and had an open ended death date 19XX. She died in 2003 just shy of her 101st birthday, so they had to correct the marker.

Looks like she lived to be 99 too (depending on whether she’d had her bd or not). That’s a lot of 9s.
