Allies of Donald Trump believe an aide or aides to the former president may have "flipped" and provided evidence to the FBI about what he was keeping in his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Axios reported on Wednesday.

The report said people close to Trump were feeling paranoid after Monday's FBI raid on the resort Trump made his home after leaving the White House.

Trump's camp has said authorities sought documents Trump brought to Mar-a-Lago from the White House when he left office, an issue that has prompted complaints from the US National Archives.

Christina Bobb, a lawyer for Trump, told The Washington Post on Tuesday that Trump's legal team had discussions this spring with Justice Department officials about material being kept in a basement at Mar-a-Lago. She said the officials searched through several dozen boxes' worth of items in the basement and asked that they be better secured.

The Post described its sources as saying the raid focused on whether Trump withheld items that the DOJ had requested.

Trump said in a statement on Monday that he'd cooperated after the National Archives and the DOJ requested that he return items taken from the White House.

Under federal law, records and other materials related to a president's official duties must be handed over to the National Archives when they leave office.

Bobb said the FBI agents on Monday took about 12 boxes from Mar-a-Lago, and Trump has claimed they broke into a safe.

If they aren’t guilty they have nothing to hide, right? Isn’t that their thing?

Of course the Republicans would call a whistle blower or a person revealing evidence of criminal activity "a traitor".

They are running their political party like they are the fucking Corleone family.
