I had twins in the NICU 10 years ago for 4 months each and the bill was over $2 million. The only upside to them being born small was they auto qualified for Medicaid who paid what my insurance didn’t. We ended up with a similar bill which was for the delivery.
My dad had a ruptured abdominal aorta. Very low survival rate but he was lucky it happened across the street from a hospital. Got him in quick for life saving surgery. He spent 6 weeks in ICU. His bill was more than $1 million.

Do the hospitals inflate these invoices in America for income reporting purposes?
The amount they charge just seems comical to the point where 90% of people would go bankrupt if they had to pay the full sum.
