I read an editorial a while ago that was against this practice. The argument was that if we don’t model how to have disagreements about politics then people will learn from the extremes on TV/online. The hyperpolarization that we see now is from the people that were forbidden to discuss religion or politics at the dinner table. I’m not sure if my stance on this, but it’s an interesting theory.

I've been told that my great-grandmother also quite strictly enforced a "No Politics at Table" rule.

The thing is tho, that I'm German, and real life being the weird thing that it is, this meant that under my great-grandmother's ever vigilant stare, ardent nazis (with one a member of the Waffen-SS) were politely passing the salt and butter to dispossessed jewish nobility and academics.

Family history can be pretty wild sometimes.
