I didn’t see the ocean for the first time until I was 23. My family was basically always broke when I was growing up so vacations never happened.

I finally got to see it with my wife on our honeymoon. I remember actually gasping when I first saw it and actually teared up a bit with excitement. Bodies of water are where I find peace and joy.

My point in saying all this is if I felt that way at 23 getting to see the ocean for the first time, I can’t imagine how your MIL felt. So happy for her!

That is fucking great. My mom came to visit and we took her to the zoo. I had no idea that she had never been to a zoo in her life and she was 70 years old.

Good on you and your spouse.

I adopted an older child (6.5) from Ethiopia. She did not speak much English. We live in SoCal, so we frequent the beach. The first time she saw the ocean she started yelling, “BIG WATER! BIG WATER!” It was great to see that. She’s 17 now and the best person I know.
