Ted Cruz Heckled at Texas GOP Convention, Called 'Coward' in Viral Video

Texas Senator Ted Cruz was confronted and called a coward and a globalist who doesn't love America while at the Texas GOP convention.

The convention was held last week between June 16 and 18 in Houston, at the George R. Brown Convention Center but it is not clear from the video on what day the altercation took place.

The heckler highlighted Cruz's trip to Mexico following a winter storm that left millions without power and water, his support for Ukraine's fight against Russia, as well as his relationship with former President Donald Trump.

A video of the man confronting Cruz has now gone viral on social media and has been viewed nearly 1 million times.

The video was originally uploaded by comedian and social media personality Alex Stein to his various social media channels with the caption, "Calling Out Ted 'Cancun' Cruz for being a globalist and selling out America." The clip has received over 170,000 views on his Twitter, 85,000 views on Instagram and 55,000 views on Stein's YouTube channel.

After Stein published the video, another version was uploaded by commentator Ron Filipkowski to Twitter.

"Ted Cruz gets heckled and harassed by a right winger at Texas State GOP Convention, who calls him a coward and a globalist, asks him how he can like Trump after he called his wife ugly, then finished with Cancun," Filipkowski wrote as he shared the video.

"Remember how Trump made fun of your wife and you went and became best friends with Trump, why do you do that?" Stein said as he approached Cruz who was sitting at a table in the convention hall.

"You go and become best friends with Trump after he makes fun of you and your wife, why do you do that?"

In the run-up to the 2016 election, Trump mocked Cruz's wife Heidi Cruz's looks and compared her to his ex-model wife Melania Trump in a tweet.

This came after an ad from Cruz where an old modelling photograph of Melania Trump was used to criticise his rival.

"It is because you are a coward, I do love America, you don't," Stein continued.

"You care more about the border between Ukraine and Russia than you do about the border between Texas and Mexico, why is that?"

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Cruz released a statement in support of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and vehemently condemned Putin for his attack on the country.

Stein was then ushered away by a group of men as he continued to shout back at Cruz.

"You are a globalist, you know it Ted, you are a globalist. You know that, bud, that is why you are a coward and a liar.

"You know that and I know that, that's why you are afraid to stand up. When people were freezing and dying you were in Mexico, do you remember that?

"Remember when you had the all-inclusive buffet while people were freezing. Do you remember that Ted? When everyone was freezing and people were dying."

This comment was in reference to the condemnation that Cruz received after the 2021 winter storm that resulted in blackouts and burst water pipes.

Cruz said he planned the holiday for his daughters out of a desire to be a good dad but returned because it "didn't feel right", according to a BBC report.

Stein told Newsweek he confronted Cruz because "I felt a great seal of animosity that Ted Cruz would go on a Cancun vacation while the a huge portion of his state was suffering."

"I would also like to mention Ted Cruz has done absolutely nothing to address the problems at our southern border of Texas and Mexico," Stein added.
