Imaged from home using a Hydrogen-alpha filter (Daystar Quark Chromosphere), 100mm telescope and mono camera. The sun was a six-panel mosaic, each consisting of a stack of several hundred frames. Added the Earth by dividing Sun’s pixel radius by 190 and scaling. The large sunspot area in the lower half is AR3014. One of the largest sunspots in recent years, it is 125,000km across, nearly 10x the diameter of Earth.

Gear: Skywatcher Esprit100ED, Astronomik 2” UV/IR block, Daystar Quark Chromosphere, ZWO ASI2600MM

Acquisition: 6-panel mosaic, each panel 120s, 3FPS, exposure 20ms, gain 0

Processing: stacked best 15% of each panel in AutoStakkert, cropped and contrast in LightRoom to aid mosaic construction. PhotoMerge in Photoshop for mosaic creation. Pixinsight: MLT for sharpening (a couple rounds layers 2 & 3 .05), Curves to invert. Colorized in PS using ColorBalance.

It’s wild to know that there are stars bigger than our sun! 😳
