Head of the Serbian Parliament says that the country supports Russia

The president of the Serbian Parliament, Ivica Dacic, assured this Wednesday (03.23.2022) that his country does not want war, but that in relation to the conflict in Ukraine he is undoubtedly on the side of Russia, since it is his only true international support.

“Serbia does not want war, but there is no dilemma as to which side their sympathies are on,” said Dacic, who will run for prime minister in the April 3 elections. The politician, who has been head of government and foreign minister in the past, stated that Russia is the only country that truly supports Serbia, according to the Tanjug agency.

He also argued that according to a recent poll, only 6 percent of Serbs support Ukraine, while 40 percent side with Russia, while the rest do not take sides. “It is a lie that we would gain something if we were against Russia. Russia will survive without us, but we would lose their support. And if we lose them, we would have no one,” he considered.

Dacic was a close associate of Serbian authoritarian leader Slobodan Milosevic, who died in prison accused of war crimes, and in recent years has been one of the most constant associates of current Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Ivica Dacic argued that the European Union’s policy is hypocritical and that no matter how much Serbia meets its demands, Brussels “will always ask for more and more”, while Russia, on the contrary, defends Belgrade’s interests.

The European Union “will demand the independence of Kosovo. We should look at our interests,” Dacic concluded. Serbia, a candidate to join the European Union, is the only country in Europe, with the exception of Belarus, that has not adopted sanctions against Russia. (EFE)

Seems like Serbia doesn't want to be part of EU and rather be an open air museum of misguided nationalism surrounded by prosperous countries.

Well, at least that concludes their bid to join the EU.
