In the UK we pay the equivalent of $7.35 per gallon

We also have a yearly road tax which is similar to the US annual registration fee. While the US fee changes per state, here in the UK we pay road tax based on emissions.

My 1.4 Vauxhall/Opel Astra road tax is around £170 ($230) per year and larger emitters are massively more expensive.

As an LA resident, avoid filling up by the highway. You can still find gas for around $4.30 to $4.50 a gallon all over (which still isn't cheap), but the highway adjacent stations always jack up the price another $1 a gallon because they know your choices are limited.
