Some customers are not happy after McDonald’s released four new menu items that customers have to build themselves.

“Why have a hack menu when we have to build it ourselves,” one Twitter user asked the company.

“I got 6 separate sandwiches,” another person wrote on Twitter.

“Please make it clear when your order a Menu Hack. The customer needs to build it #disappointed,” a tweet at the company said.

The menu items are the new Land, Air and Sea sandwich, Hash Brown McMuffin, Crunchy Double and Surf +Turf. They were officially part of the menu Monday after McDonald’s noticed customers were sharing these menu “hacks” on social media.

“From Hip-Hop icons to Christmas queens, everyone has a unique go-to McDonald’s order, including our everyday customers,” said Jennifer Healan, Vice President of U.S. Marketing, Brand Content and Engagement for McDonald’s USA.

Although it went unnoticed by some, the company has been advertising the new items as a build it yourself option.

“Order by name and build it by hand,” one of the advertisements states. It then shows how to build the sandwiches.

McDonald’s uses hacks from fans to create new menu items, including the Land, Air and Sea sandwich and Hash Brown McMuffin.

“Not a hack, more like a ripoff,” one Twitter user wrote.

“If you don’t assemble the ‘hack’ what are you offering? NOTHING. It amounts to a combo,” one Twitter user suggested. “#hacks should be served assembled.”

Customers also posted on social media that they liked the new hacks or are looking forward to trying them. But many aren’t sold on the new items.

“Clever way of getting people to buy two sandwiches and thinking they are getting something new,” Jeremy Martin wrote. “@Wendys I will just stick with you.”

So @McDonalds "menu hack" is just you ordering two sandwiches, they already had on the menu btw, and you putting it together yourself. Secret menu items at mcds are meant to be assembled. You get a mcdouble and peel it open at the middle to put a mcchicken in there to make the Filthy McNasty.
