The Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945) began with the invasion of China by the Imperial Japanese Army. The conflict became part of World War II, which is also known in China as the War of Resistance Against Japan. The First Sino-Japanese War (1894-95) is known as the Jiawu War in China.

The 100th/422nd Infantry Regiment which was almost entirely made up of Japanese Americans was the most decorated unit of its size in WW2 earned 21 medals of honor, 52 distinguished service crosses, 1 distinguished service medal, 560 Silver Stars (plus 28 Oak Leaf Clusters for a second award), 22 Legion of Merit Medals , 15 Soldier's Medals , 4,000 Bronze Stars (plus 1,200 Oak Leaf Clusters for a second award).

And most of their families were in internment camps for the duration of the war.

I believe I heard David Choe talking about this on a podcast, that it's funny that Americans group Asian immigrant groups together. Because from an Asian person's perspective, people from other Asian countries are complete foreignors to them. It wasn't until they came to America that they were forced to take on these pan-Asian identities (e.g. API).
