I spent about 15 hours total on this piece. Gandalf is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction for a couple of reasons. The first is because in the lore, he is pretty much an immortal, near all powerful being that could do practically whatever he wants, but he chose to travel Middle-Earth as a old man and only intervene when absolutely necessary. He made friends with everyone he could, and became a mentor, or even grandfather figure to many people as well. My second reason he is my favorite is because before I was old enough to read, my parents would send me and my siblings to my grandpa's house every few weekends. While we were there, he would read books aloud to us, with my favorite of all time being The Hobbit. Ever since then, I've always thought of Gandalf and my Grandpa as kind of the same person 😅 My grandpa didn't have an amazing beard like our favorite wizard, but his loving attitude towards all and clear desire to make people (especially children) happy was present in his every day life. My Grandpa has since passed on, but his memory lives on, especially when I read Tolkien's work, watch Peter Jackson's movies, or create fan art with oils on canvas :)
