Australian soldiers after their release from Japanese captivity in Singapore, 1945. These five POWs were held in the Changi POW camp. Over 22,000 Australians became prisoners of war of the Japanese.

The newspaper the soldier is reading is the “Daily Express” from September 5th, 1945. The headline reads “30th Day in Hiroshima: Those Who Escaped Begin To Die, Victims Of – The Atomic Plague”.

Canadian soldiers in Hong Kong looked about the same after their release from the Japanese.
