The hospital I work for is desperate for nurses. It isn’t for lack of trying, the supply is just not meeting the demand. They’re offering huge referral and signing bonuses for nurses but still can’t get positions filled.

And other RNs, and doctors and other healthcare workers, having done the math on working during a pandemic for uncaring corporations, will not come work with them.

My primary care doc, a mom of little kids, left her coporate practice last summer to go work for a study, where the patients were carefully screeened Botha t the beginning and throughout the study.

I miss her compassion and thoroughness. But don’t, for a minute, blame her.

Nurses need better pay in general. The hospital administration is going to fight that. They'd rather pay travel nurses 3x more for a limited time, than pay a staff nurse a better salary for what may amount to a full career and therefore worse long-term profits. University administration is going to fight paying nursing teachers better, because Dean Schmuckatelli needs a raise and they need a new masseuse for the football team.

Not to mention, we need more nursing assistants/ patient care techs/ medical assistants and they need better pay too. But again, that's going to cut into profits.
