(CNN) West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice tested positive Tuesday for Covid-19 and described feeling "extremely unwell" as he isolates at home, according to a statement.

Justice, 70, awoke Tuesday morning with congestion and a cough, eventually developing a headache and fever, he said in the statement. By late afternoon, his blood pressure and heart rate were elevated and he had a high fever.

Results from a rapid test in the morning came back negative but a PCR test came back positive, he said.

"While I was surprised that my test results came back positive, I'm thankful to the Lord above that I've been vaccinated, I've been boosted, and that I have an incredible support system, especially my loving family," Justice said.

The governor will be receiving a course of monoclonal antibody treatment, the statement said.

Stayed away from covid for three years. Got vaccinated, social distanced, wore masks, the whole nine yards. Got a text at work about a week ago from my wife saying “your grandma is here”. Okay, awesome. Didn’t know she was coming to town, but I love my grandma, so sweet.

Fast forward a few days, she calls me, has covid. Kids are feeling sick, wife’s feeling sick. Fuck. So I go and get tested, and lo and behold, I’ve got covid, my wife, step daughter, and six and two year olds all have covid. Job doesn’t offer covid leave, I don’t have enough pto to cover the days I’ll miss, making me take days without pay.

I feel absolutely awful. My families health and safety are at risk now for something beyond my control. I’m so fucking over this shit.

I have omicron right now and "extremely unwell" is a very apt description. Vaxxed + boostered and only one morbidity. (non lethal skin cancer)

It is nasty.

One of the few Republicans actively pushing for vaccinations and boosters too. This is going to, unfortunately, be fuel for the anti-vaxx fire.
