The Mexico–United States border

The left is the USA. America often restricts how close they can build to the border (usually a mile or so), while Mexico builds right up to the border.

It makes it easier for border patrol to control the region if there's less development super close to the wall.

It varies by state though, I think Texas might build up to the border but California doesn't.

EDIT: Okay so its the "Roosevelt Easement" that gives the American federal government a 60 foot wide area of land on the border. Apparently this only applies to 3 out of the 4 border states, with Texas being the exception. The federal government owns about 33% of the land on the border, and their ownership has increased post-9/11. The other 66% of the land is largely in Texas and is owned by the state or private entities.

I'm referencing this article, but I feel like a Google search would show what is federal versus privately owned.

I didn't realize this renewed effort was so recent by the federal government, and apparently they have threatened to use eminent domain post-9/11.

Why are they both in the same color grading? Shouldnt Mexico be a bit oranger?
