I'm an atheist, so I could be totally wrong here, but I was under the impression that the pope's job was to bless everyone? Therefore, he wouldn't be the type to do a background check on people before sharing god's love with them - since I think the underlying point is that everyone is equally deserving/undeserving. IDK - I don't know the rules.
