Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) said on Sunday that it is “insane” anyone could watch footage of the Jan. 6 riot and think it “was just tourists looking at statues,” apparently taking a jab at one House Republican who compared the violent event last year to “a normal tourist visit.”

“Look, let's face it. There's been an amazing amount of disinformation that's been spread over the past year. And many people are consuming that disinformation and believing it as if it's fact,” Hogan told “State of the Union” co-anchor Dana Bash Dana BashHarry Reid, political pugilist and longtime Senate majority leader, dies House Republican, Democrat say political environment on Capitol Hill is 'toxic' 10 Democrats who could run in 2024 if Biden doesn't MORE on CNN.

“To think that the violent protesters who attacked the Capitol, our seat of democracy, on Jan. 6 was just tourists looking at statues — it's insane that anyone could watch that on television and believe that's what happened,” he added.

Hogan’s comments appeared to take a jab at Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.), who last year downplayed the seriousness of the Jan. 6 riot as a mob of supporters of former President Trump Donald TrumpOne in three Americans say violence against government sometimes justified: poll Seven most vulnerable governors facing reelection in 2022 Sunday shows preview: Omicron surge continues; anniversary of Jan. 6 attack approaches MORE ransacked the Capitol and tried to stop Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election.

“Watching the TV footage of those who entered the Capitol and walked through Statuary Hall showed people in an orderly fashion staying between the stanchions and ropes taking videos and pictures,” Clyde said in May. “You know, if you didn’t know the TV footage was a video from Jan. 6, you’d think it was a normal tourist visit.”

Bash asked Hogan if he believed American democracy would prevail given that baseless claims over the 2020 election were so ingrained within his party and had given rise to the Capitol riot.

“That's one of the reasons why I continue to speak up and tell the truth about what happened, because I think it's critically important. I mean, it's, frankly, it's crazy that that many people believe that, things that just simply aren't true, that they believe a different version of reality,” Hogan said.

I remember this time I was in a museum looking at paintings and statues and said to myself, self, this is a good place to wipe shit on the wall

There were interviewes with mopey insurrectionists afterwards stating they thought they were helping Trump and taking their country back from the evil Democrats.

The only people who watch footage of the insurrectionists insurrecting and say "it's just tourists!" Are people who were there and are trying to ignore their guilt or people who wanted to be there but weren't.
