Central Alberta, it got down to roughly -45°C tonight. Woke up to frost in the corner of my bedroom.

Hello fellow Albertan with an old house! First, you are not alone, I too have had frosty walls. If you are renting, this is not your problem other than your own comfort. I would inform your landlord and ask them for extra heaters or ask them if they want you to do anything to mitigate damage.

If you own, here are some things to consider. What is your siding like? We had wood siding over gypsum board that we replaced with OSB, house wrap and vinyl siding. This stopped the frost walls. We are slowly ripping off the old drywall, reinsulating, adding poly and re drywalling. You might have insulation but its probably shit. It could also be that the rim joist has no insulation.

Get the air circulating a bit more. Move things away from outside walls and set up fans to circulate more air around.

Edit: Thank you everyone for the awards.
