I bet your dad really built it for himself. Kind of like when a man buys his wife a bowling ball for Christmas knowing he will be 'borrowing' it all the time.
Growing up, before my folks separated we always decorated mine and my brother’s childhood room and fireplace mantle with our Christmas village.
When my dad and step mom got married he found out she also had miniature village pieces and created the display to showcase her and his combined collection. It’s all made out of particle board, spray painted, wired, and decorated by his hand. My step mom has lived in various places around the world and has collected different themed pieces so each tier has some sort of theme tied to it.
It’s a really unique piece and is really exciting to see each year we visit. Just thought I’d share.
