Enjoy the donuts, and the precious memories you make in the process.

This may be not appropriate, but it is a fun story related to wheelchairs.

Years ago, I was a summer door assistant in a hospital. My job included receiving and sending goods, making sure the direct entrance was empty, etc. Boring stuff, especially on Sundays.

With a couple of other door assistants and others, we organized on Sunday mornings the Roman Wheelchair races.

At one floor, you could run in a large circle, across several departments, and we got permission from the staff to get some patients in wheelchairs (broken bones, amputated legs, cancer patients, etc, we were with 8) to run the race with. Most of the patients were kids.

We started all at the same time and raced across the floor. The first team that had 3 laps won. There were wheelchairs that did not made a corner and there were bumps across the race. It was a chaos, but it was fun.

It was not without accidents, but hey, we were at an hospital anyway and staff was observing and enjoying the race as much as the patients.

There were some questions from parents about why their kid had some extra bandages, but the kids kept the reason to a secret. The morale on the floors was excellent and everyone had a good time. We made sure there were ceremonies and prices for every patient that was willing to join the race.

It lasted only 6 weeks, but years later, I heard from the staff they were still talking bout it with good memories.
