Actor Matthew McConaughey says his decision to run for Texas governor will be announced "shortly" as the deadline to declare approaches on December 13. In an interview Tuesday with The Hollywood Reporter, the Texas-born Oscar winner denied being "coy and noncommittal" about his potential run and says he has taken time to study and prepare for the new role before officially diving into Texas politics.

"It’s a new embassy of leadership that I have really been doing my diligence to study, to look into, to question what it is, what would it be for me," McConaughey told Hollywood Report's James Hibberd. "Not the question of, 'Hey, do you think I could win?' No. Let’s talk about what Texas politics is. Talk about a policy statement." The statement follows former El Paso congressman Beto O'Rourke's announcement last week on officially joining the race.

I'm only OK with this if he splits the conservative vote.

Can't wait for Republicans to say "the last thing we need is a celebrity in government"
