Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez chimed in during House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy's more than three-hour speech on the House floor on Thursday night ahead of a vote on the Democrats' social spending bill.

During his speech, which was ongoing at the time of publication, McCarthy, a Republican from California, quoted a recent remark made by Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger.

"Nobody elected Joe Biden to be FDR," McCarthy said, referencing President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and drawing a comparison between President Joe Biden's sweeping legislation and FDR's transformative New Deal.

Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive Democrat from New York, audibly shouted, "I did!"

MSNBC's Kyle Griffin recounted Ocasio-Cortez's response to McCarthy, which she retweeted.

The $1.75 trillion Build Back Better Act is a social spending bill that includes funds for universal preschool, child tax credits, and the expansion of Medicare, among other items.

Senate Democrats plan to use reconciliation to pass the bill, which means it could pass without the support of any Republicans.

McCarthy's speech on Thursday night ultimately forced Democrats to shelve plans for a Thursday evening vote in the House. Some Democratic lawmakers told Insider it was "unhinged" due to its erratic nature, veering between far-flung subjects like Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.

"Raising a young child, my six-year-old knows better than to behave like this especially in front of company," Rep. Nakeema Williams of Georgia told Insider. "I think America is watching a meltdown."

McCarthy broke a record once held by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the longest floor speech, clocking in at eight hours and 23 minutes. But it mattered little as Democrats passed the spending bill on Friday morning, brushing aside united GOP opposition to advance Biden's economic agenda.

Imagine being cool with spending almost a Trillion Dollars a year on War but not being okay with the same number over 10 years to actually build a better country.

Republicans spent years during Obama crying about debt, crying about the ways a President should behave, crying about the lack of bipartisanship, the whole time distancing themselves from Bush and Republicans that came before. Then Trump came along and overnight nothing mattered. They spent trillions, rammed through appointments of criminally incompetent cabinet members, and just showed their asses at will. Now that Biden is in the White House they are attempting the old playbook again. Crying about gas prices and saying that investing is childcare socialism. It is outrageous. I have been following politics closely for 30yrs and this current group of Republicans in the House are the worst group of fakes and liars I have ever witnessed and the last 5yrs in particular has been terrible.
