Remakes and remasters of previous games have remained a big part of today's consoles. Companies with long-running or popular properties have been exploring for ways to resurrect classic games for modern audiences, from complete remakes like Final Fantasy 7 Remake to the upcoming Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Others, such as Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, which includes the first three games with upgrades, have simply ported previous titles with quality of life changes.

Sony has a history of remakes, having released a totally recreated Demon's Souls alongside the PlayStation 5. Rumors of another legendary PlayStation game being restored continue to circulate around the company. So yet, there's been no solid information on which property it could be, and with Sony's vast library of IPs, anything could happen. However, once one person involved in the game's production came out, the timeline for a possible announcement was shortened.

In a recent interview, folk singer Éabha McMahon, widely known as Ava, confirmed that she was involved in a recording session for a yet-to-be-announced PlayStation game. McMahon went on to say that she worked on an Irish language composition with Michael McGlynn soon before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. McGlynn approached McMahon about the opportunity, explaining that it was for a PlayStation game remake.

McMahon went on to say that she had been told it would be a "huge game" and that it will be publicized around Christmas time in December. Naturally, this comment has sparked a lot of conjecture among fans as to what game it might be. As composer Yasunori Mitsuda tweeted out a picture of himself, McGlynn, and his daughter getting ready to record and perform remotely, one speculation is that it could be a remake of Xenogears, a 1998 PlayStation game. However, McGlynn has a lot of experience writing music for video games, so it's possible this is a whole separate project.

Another option is that the game in question is one created by Sony's newly purchased first-party firm BluePoint Games. With blockbuster PlayStation remakes like Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls already under its belt and another game in the works, Sony may have entrusted the company with another important IP. Fans have already hypothesized that it could be connected to Bloodborne, although this is still just rumour and speculation at this point. Regardless, the Christmas announcement window coincides with another important December event, The Game Awards, so fans may get an answer to this topic sooner rather than later.
