Ever hear of John DiReggie? Please read about him. He died at 16 years old, because he and his girlfriend and her sister were taking pictures on active railroad tracks.
A huge train traveling at 70 miles an hour goes over 100 yards in 3 seconds.
Honor John DiReggie's lost life. Stay off railroad active tracks. It's illegal for you to be on them anyway.
If you are a new photographer (or any kind of photographer really) resist the urge to take photos or video on train tracks unless you have a permit to be there. Permits are how you find out it's genuinely safe to be taking photos on a train track.
I'm not saying train photography isn't fun; it is. Just keep a safe distance. There are many, many reasons for this. Most important? Keeping yourself, and the people you might be photographing, alive.
