My condolences on your upcoming loss of sleep, newly found fear of everything small and the constant battle of 'it's your turn'!

Grats on the baby though! It changes your life!

Hey OP father too two kids, 5 and 2...Please please remember this if you get stressed out. WALK AWAY from your crying child, they will be fine. I wont lie its stressful sometimes and you need breaks for a couple minutes time to time, But nothing beats being a parent and watching your kids grow! Hang in there it's not easy...Congrats man!! Do your best

Gratz :)

May I share a rather unusual advice, as a serial dad? I learnt it over the years, and it was too late for me to put it to practice with my first child, it's not the end of the world, but it's a bit of a pity.

To put it into a context: it's based on the fact (scientifically proven, etc) that humans only start remembering things (as actual memories) only after they have properly acquired language. Before that, what remains is either trauma (bad environment) or kindness & self-confidence (growing surrounded by love and caring.)

Because of that, your daughter won't remember the 1st year she lived with you, and very little of the 2nd year either. Of course, that doesn't mean those 2 years don't count, no.

But: It means those years are for YOU, the parents!

The baby will never remember those years. You will.

Cherish those years, record tons of vids, say "fuck you" to work to spend more time with your daughter, because those years, again, they're for you, not for mini-you, YOU are the one who will remember them for the rest of your lifetime.

Either remember them as you being absent, or as you being with the baby and enjoying it, making a lifetime's golden memories.

It will also help on bad days, when you're tired and angry. Cause those bad days will exist: hang in there! Don't let it sink you! Even then, it's worth it, it's YOUR time :)
