There are a lot of things that seem at least strange to me.
The officer is looking straight in the camera and seems in the process to shoot his gun, I have never seen such a thing. 3 out of 5 soldiers are not correctly aiming their mausers 98 and someone is not even correctly handling it. The soldier on the far right is looking in the camera as the officer. Finally, who would leave the condemned man loose?

They are too close to the wall to shoot without significant risk of those Mauser rounds ricocheting back at them.
