The night sky is usually pretty washed out for us suburban folk (~7 on the bortle scale here). Luckily all it takes is a straight drive west for a few hours to get to some truly dark skies (only a ~2 on the scale). Had a few days off so we drove out and I let my boy stay up way past bedtime to do some star gazing and picture taking. He was pretty blown away by the view.
This was taken in western Kansas on private land. Night visitation only allowed with land owner permission.
