Sometimes we get lucky and capture stunning moments of the human struggle in an image. Sometimes that struggle is tragic and it's uncomfortable to view. I believe we do our fellow human beings a disservice if we look away and pretend these tragic events didn't happen.
This is what I tell people when asked me why I document bad news. I will not deny this man's struggle by looking away and pretending it didn't happen.
In fact, I feel it's almost my duty to document tragedy if only to remind us to show compassion and help those in need.
