Ryuta Ueda Director of Yakuza 1&2 Returns to Sega

After years of major talent leaving Sega it looks like a familiar face is returning to the fold. Announced on his Facebook page, Ryuta Ueda has announced that he’s left his position at Yahoo Japan and will be returning to work at Sega. This move sees him return to working in video games after a few years away from the industry.

Ueda started as an artist at Sega in the mid 90’s with the first big game he worked on being the Panzer Dragoon series. He went on to create the now much loved and widely used cell shaded look in Jet Set Radio. This was followed by Yakuza 1&2 which saw him step into directing games for the first time. While he did help plan the Kenzan spin-off he had no further involvement with the series after this. Before leaving Sega Ueda directed one last game, the Kinect exclusive title Rise of Nightmares which was not received well.

We’ll be sure to keep an eye on if his new role involves him getting involved in the Yakuza series again.

Not sure he will be much help. The Yakuza series its vastly different now from the og Yakuza 1&2, especially regarding the nature of the story.

Didnt some other important Yakuza developer just leave? If so, hopefully this offsets that.
