After 3-week COVID-19 battle, Daytona Beach talk radio host Marc Bernier dies.

Marc Bernier, a talk radio host in Daytona Beach for 30 years, died after a three-week battle with COVID-19, WNDB and Southern Stone Communications announced on Twitter Saturday night.

Chitwood said he had appeared regularly on Bernier's show for the last 15 years, first as Daytona Beach police chief and then as sheriff.

It’s with great sadness that WNDB and Southern Stone Communications announce the passing of Marc Bernier, who informed and entertained listeners on WNDB for over 30 years.

Justin Gates, a vice president at Sports Network International in Ormond Beach, said he first met Bernier when the radio host, a native of Rhode Island, was new in the Daytona Beach area some 30 years ago.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said Thursday that he believes religion may be driving his state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday, Reeves noted the state's recent COVID-19 surge may be stabilizing, noting plateauing hospitalization rates, WJTV reported.

The state has started sending additional staff to overwhelmed hospitals, and Reeves said this would add nearly 1,000 hospital beds in the state. »

Edwards said Hurricane Ida, which is forecast to intensify to a powerful Category 4 storm before making landfall along the state’s southeastern coast Sunday, Aug. 29, will be the strongest storm to hit anywhere in the state since the 1850s.

He acknowledged Hurricane Ida will be making landfall on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
