She is so pretty. I hope she’s playing with my Mick. Toughest thing I’ve ever had to do. Hope you’re doing okay.

A little about my life with Zoey.

The first night at home was fun, I had a very high bed and didn't have any dog steps so I improvised with a few pieces of furniture. She used them coming up, but she ignored them going down, preferring the flying leap technique to my dismay. I eventually took all the cushions off the couch and spread them on the floor until I got her using the steps.

The second night, her tummy was getting used to the new food and while she was napping she farted. It woke her up and she stared at her butt in confusion and cocked her head. When it happened again she growled. A little later, I farted she was REALLY offended then, she moved to the far corner of the bed and glared at me. When the smell caught up with her, she was away from the steps and resorted to leaping off the bed again and moved to the furthest corner of the room and kept glaring at me. When I went to pick her up, she moved away from me. It took her about a half-hour to forgive me.

My first trip with her to the beach a few weeks after I adopted her, we stayed in a cabin that shared a wall with a very, shall I say, active and vocal couple next door. Zoey was about 10 weeks old and was tired from a long day of running after seagulls. The first time the woman screamed "yes" Zoey woke up. The next time she screamed, Zoey cocked her head. When she screamed again, Zoey jumped off the bed and tumbled head over heels. She proceeded to run laps around the room every time the woman screamed. I was trying to stifle my laughter.

When she was three months old, I took her to the first PTSD Support Group I attended. I sat next to the woman I would marry five years later.

When I started having seizures, she learned to go get my wife and tell her. Once when Julie was out of town I was staying with my parents and Zoey went to tell my dad I was having a seizure, he thought she wanted to go outside and was trying to leash her up, so she physically pushed him down the hall to where I was.

When I say she saved my life. I'm not lying, if I had to guess I'd say she did so three of four times based on the number of big seizures (10 to 15 minutes long) I had that she got help for. While she was my girl, she was really a mommy's girl, and she was Julie's Emotional Support Dog more than anything. This is going to be really hard for her.

She was the best girl.
