Several years ago we were flying Southwest (no assigned seats) from Sacramento to LA. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was waiting to get on the flight "stand-by." He didn't get on, but had he been seated he would certainly have been in a middle seat.
I'm a foot shorter than him and can barely tolerate a middle seat - poor guy - it must be rough flying a commercial flight when you're 7'3" or however tall he is.
