Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Is Getting Review Bombed

The first three games in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection launched just a few days ago. For the most part, they're well-received by fans, who are particularly happy with the new visuals and soundtrack. However, there's a group in the fanbase that isn't happy with Square Enix at all.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster is currently getting review bombed on Metacritic, seemingly for its lack of console releases. The first game in the collection sits at a staggeringly low 0.7/10, with the next two games in the series reaching 0.8 and 1.9 respectively.

Only one of these many negative reviews is accompanied by text. User ddddz, who scored the game a zero, says: "The game is not available on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Square Enix says that the console version of the pixel remaster Final Fantasy depends on demand. I express my interest in the console version."

Adding to the theory that all of these reviews are about platform grievances rather than an issue with the game itself is that they're all reviewing well on Steam. At the time of writing, 91% of the 707 reviews for the first game in the collection are positive.

Reviews are a bit more mixed on mobile, but this seems to be due to performance issues. The Google Play store has the first game at 3.8/5, with some users complaining about poor framerate, a fair amount of lag, and finding it irritating that you need an internet connection to boot it up.

As the negative review on Metacritic suggests, Square Enix has indeed said that a console port would depend on the demand. Square also explained that the reason the collection came to Steam and smartphone first was that Final Fantasy 1 through 6 are already on there, and the team wanted to update these versions.

Yet not all these updates have been met with praise. Ever since the initial reveal, players were not happy with the choice of font. The text in-game can be hard to read at times as a result, and fans have already found a workaround to make it much more like the original.

If there's any reason they should review bomb it, it's the god awful font they've gone with... even with the "fix" it still doesn't look too great.

Did they even say it wouldnt come to console? Morons, do they really think review bombing is the way to get what they want?

Who trusts metacritic anyways? One person can ruin the score.
