I coached kids tee ball this year as a volunteer and first time doing it. There were indeed some rude parents. One guy yelled at me that we didn't know what we were doing and were failing his kid and all I could do was say dude...they're 4 and we don't even take scores. Get over it lol.

My dad referees soccer and according to him, the parents get worse every year. And even after covid , people are worse than ever about their kid's soccer team. U11 girls soccer and parents & coaches are berating him, calling him a fucking douche bag for missing a call. Its pathetic

I used to ref Youth Hockey many years ago as a young nineteen/twenty year old, it basically paid for my beer league fees. Reffed a game where the visiting team had a total pylon of a kid whose sole skill seemed to be running in to other kids, generally while cross checking. I had talked to him during of the stoppages, because who knows it might be his first game or something.

It didn’t get better, said something to the coach, didn’t get better.

So, I started calling the minor on him, which apparently was a war crime level offense based on his Dad’s reaction in the bleachers. After his second penalty the dad was down near the ice (center ice didn’t have glass in this arena) and just said “I am sick of your shit, you are fucking this up for my kid, I’ll be waiting for you in the parking lot” and was visibly angry.

Sure enough, after the game he’s out there pacing around still pissed. Thankfully (a) the head of the youth program was around, and (b) my beer league team had started showing up as we had the ice not long after youth hockey was done. They got involved and the guy eventually left, I didn’t leave the arena.

That was by far the worst experience I had, but lots of other just asshole parents who all think their kid is the next Gretzky if the refs would just stop fucking up. It was the last season I reffed Hockey.

As a side note - I got into Rugby way later, and also ref that… VERY different mindset. Being disrespectful to the Ref in a Rugby Match is tantamount to grievous sin and is highly discouraged by everyone in the match.
