Damn. This is by far the largest scolid wasp I've ever seen.

This big girl is 65mm (2.5") long with a wingspan of 96mm (3.7") Scolid wasps lay their eggs inside of other animals. This species depends on Chalcasoma Atlas as it's host. They find the grubs, paralyze them and implant the egg inside of the larvas body. They then bury the larvae and wait for the eggs to hatch. After hatching the tiny new wasps devour the larvae while it's still alive. Unpleasant for the grubbo I'd think.

This is Wrens hand, she asked if she could hold it and it is comically oversized.

Edit:/u/rocketmonkee made a helpful comment that provided more context, but isn't showing up. That comment stated:

To provide more context: Red Scale is an artist in Houston - you can also find him as Daniel Cesspooch in other social media, and a lot of his art focuses on designs with insects and other elements of nature. This particular wasp is found in Sumatra and Java, not Houston, and the specimen pictured here is not live.

Edited to remove the Facebook link.
