This map is from David Vine's *Base Nation* (2015). It's an interesting map for a number of reasons, but what caught my eye is that there appears to be an unconfirmed "lily pad" located in Vietnam. U.S.-Vietnam relations, especially in the realm of security vis-a-vis China, have increased markedly in recent years, so this makes strategic sense – but considering U.S. military legacy in "Indochina"/Vietnam, secrecy also makes sense. However, I can't find any sources even alleging that there is some, even unconfirmed, U.S. military presence in Vietnam. Does anyone know more about this?

The USA itself appears to be unguarded. Uh oh.
