As someone who speaks only English, I am painfully aware that anything I say in a foreign language will make me sound like a moron. I am not a moron. They are not a moron because they speak in broken sentences with a thick accent. They're just doing their best.
This reminds me of one of my coworkers, who was complaining about how bad his students' English was and how "they need to learn English!" as if it were the most important subject in the entire school curriculum.
