Reddit is just like any other social media. You have to curate it to you. If you stay in the big pool and allow the algorithm to dictate where you go it sucks. If you put in the effort to find those you want to connect with and stay out of the much more universally common areas, it can be very pleasant and nice.

Be careful with the "getting advice" part. Hobbies, sure. Any kind of relationship advice (family/friend/romantic)? Be prepared to be inundated with the most braindead and damaging "advice" imaginable from terminally online mouth breathers, and they're going to be the most upvotes comments too.

If I had a nickel for every time I've seen someone demand OP get a divorce/go NC over a minor disagreement...
