Just as a retro connection, in FF8 there's this excellent card game called triple triad, and a complicated set of rules and quests related to it. Late in the game you are on a space station that's crashing to earth or something and there's a person in the hallway as you run for the ship to escape.
They'll play Triple Triad with you. They have a rare card that's pretty hard (near impossible) to obtain otherwise. Getting it probably means playing 3-5 games, being reminded you are on a crashing space station by the flashing red light and alarms sounding every time the match ends and you start another.

I don't like the npcs who don't want to play Gwent. Why are you talking to me if you don't have a deck?!
