My dad really can’t handle noisy eaters. It makes him rage, and not in the internalized, not say anything kind of way. We learned early in childhood to eat quietly.
Fast forward to early adulthood. We had some friends over for lunch one day. My mom made her famous chicken soup. I have never encountered anyone so loud at the table as one of these guests. The slurping, the chewing, and the swallowing are to this day still the loudest I’ve ever seen. My whole family couldn’t eat because we were tense, watching dad carefully to see what he would do. The only thing happening was this guy eating in the most obnoxious fashion and my dad eating silently while everyone’s eyes went from one person to the other. It was one of those dramatic Hollywood moments. My dad demonstrated immense self control that day, and this guy had no idea.
