On June 17, 1994, the entire country stopped as O.J. Simpson fled the LAPD on the 405 Freeway in a white Ford Bronco. TV stations switched over to a helicopter feed of the car driving curiously slow away from police. Anyone watching Game 5 of the Knicks-Rockets NBA Finals remembers the split-screen broadcast of the game and the Bronco crawling down the freeway.

Last night, during Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Jeff Van Gundy told a fascinating anecdote about that infamous night in 1994. As Van Gundy tells the story, Pat Riley traveled to L.A. and ran into Simpson's friend Al Cowlings, owner and driver of the white Bronco.

"He waved him over and proceeded to tell him the story of why they were driving so slow was O.J. wanted to hear the end of the game on the radio before he pulled in. When Coach Riley told us that story, I was mesmerized by what really goes on. Like I could just see him having a gun to his head and saying: 'Turn up the radio AC so I can hear the last few minutes."

Did he ever get charged for that car chase? Isn't that evading police?
