Been reading Grimms collection recently. The amount of murder , non-happy endings and brutality is just weird. But I guess that’s why the are called Märchen.
My grandma, when it was bedtime, always read me the story of the seven goat kids and their mom, who got one of her kids eaten by a wolf.
So when the wolf was asleep, she went, sliced open his stomach, got her kid out, filled his stomach with stones, sew it back shut, and waited for him to go to the river to have a drink so we would drown. When he drowned they all danced in joy.

You have never seen the original, original Versions. Our "original" german version already is made much softer so the kids wont be scared anymore.
