From a Scottish person who lived in Australia and worked in a bar. When asking customers if they wanted ‘ice’ it was a fucking carry on because they kept thinking I was saying ‘ace’ and would look at me confused. I shit you not this happened so much that I had to make an ‘ice?’ sign.

'Oat' sounds like 'goat'. And 'withoot' sounds like 'soot'.
They're totally different sounds.
