Over £25,000 has been raised for the young German fan who was shown crying during the England v Germany Euros game.

Germany lost the game as England received two goals scored by Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane and the emotional moment for Germany was shown on the big screen when a young girl was caught crying and being consoled by an adult.

Crowds cheered as she was booed and some football fans took to social media to troll her.

Other social media users reported crowds of game watchers cheering as she cried in the pub.

In response to the event, Joel Hughes created a Just Giving crowdfunding campaign and called for people to donate money to the girl and her family.

On the Just Giving campaign, he wrote, “So yeah, England beat Germany in a major competition at last (well done).

“However, an unsavouraby element of social media piled in on this photo of an upset little girl (as seen in this tweet by Stan Collymore). Pretty horrible – to put it mildly.

“Yes, there are more people affected by this than just this little girl but hey, this is just meant to be a token of goodwill. Yes there are other potential good causes – but I’ve picked this.

“I’d like to think that the parents of the little girl will spend this on a nice treat for her so that she knows that not everyone from the UK is horrible and that we care.

No, I don’t think this will change the world. But it can do one thing for that little girl. No, I don’t know who the girl is (yet) but I know social media can sort that out.”

Since the campaign was set up, people have collectively donated over £25,000.

The girl and her family have not yet got in contact with Joel.

In his most recent message on the site, he said, “To the family of the little girl. I can *completely* understand if you do not want to get in touch, given the publicity. All I can say is this: if you can make contact with a trusted org that can mediate on your behalf, we can have a private dialogue as to your wishes. Failing that, I intend for all monies raised to go to a relevant good cause.”

People who punch holes in their mom's walls over sports shouldn't criticize a little girl for crying over sports.

When I first heard this story I assumed the folks were trying to be supportive. This is my biggest whoosh moment in my life.

For what though? As in what is the money intended toward?
