oh my god... I have been searching for this game since I played it as a kid in ~1999-2000 and since I remember so little from it I couldn't find the proper google search for it. I tried so many times and eventually gave up my many year long search a few years ago. Thank you so much I am going to go home and download this right away!
All the OG games are on GOG as complete packages. There is a free HD mod for 3 that also IIRC has online play features. Don't buy the steam version of 3, it doesn't have the expansions and the sprites are kinda gross looking.
r/HoMM small but could use more people, plenty of people still playing these gems.
There's an also indie game in development shown at e3 pc show called Songs Of Conquest that is a spiritual successor with some other neato features I'm very much looking forward to.
OR maybe you're nostalgic for the fantastic soundtracks of the first 4 games and would like to listen to Heroes Orchestraplay live versions
Shame ubisoft owns the rights to the franchise now but the classics will never die
