You all think it's rough now, you should've been around in nineteen-dickety-two after the kaiser stole our word for 20.

Interesting. I wanted to see what $71 was in 1940 and it came out to a $1,365.20 But also I read in this article that average rent in NY in the 1940s was actually $50 ($961.41 adjusted for pure inflation) and that combined with inflation and how far the dollar would actually take you the $50 came out to $780-$830

((Overall stats say average American rent was $27 in the 1940s))

Even just adjusting for inflation:

Average rent in 1940s was $961.41 ($50) and average rent in 2021 is $3,500 (Manhattan) that’s quite a markup. Although I’m not sure just how different that city was from then to now, so I’m sure that factors in.

I think the average American rent now is $995 and in 1940s it was the equivalent of $519. The rent is nearly doubled and in a lot of places tripled and more.

Just a fun tidbit to share

It was insane seeing some candidates for mayor of NYC guess that the median cost for a home in Brooklyn was $90,000.

I gave up looking to buy last year because I couldn't find a decent ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT for less than $600,000. How can you be that out of touch and think you know how to lead the people as a political figure?!
