The dad shot his missus, killed his daughter with an axe to the head, stabbed his son multiple times then set him alight. He was then able to question his son in court as he chose the represent himself.
I did watch the entire video of the cross exam that was about 45 minutes. It's no longer available on the Local News site I saw it on Friday afternoon.
He definitely retained a fool for a lawyer when he defended himself.
He started out by greeting the kid with "Hey man, it's good to see you..." and then he began the questioning.
After this murder of the child's mother and sister, and attempted murder of his of son, the 8 yr old boy was adopted by a sheriff's deputy with a loving family.
Now the boy is 11 and the father thought he could manipulate and intimidate his son like old times. But this was not the same kid he knew from 3 years ago.
This kid was confidant, clear headed of the events and spoke like an adult. Showed no emotion and the father's line of questioning made himself look like an absolute fool being played by a kid. He even resorted to asking a question about his "new father" which the prosecutor objected and was sustained.
The TOTAL POS took 40+ minutes trying to get the boy to say that he forgot certain things but failed each time and then went through lots of long awkward silence pauses because whatever he had planned for this cross exam, the kid destroyed.
When this happened the kid was beaten, stabbed and burned and barely conscious. He poured gasoline all over the apartment to burn the bodies. He assumed 3 years later kid would not remember the events clearly and he could trip him up. He was attempting to discredit his son, the only living witness. He failed miserably.
TOTAL POS: "And what did I do last time you saw me in the house?"
KID: "You stabbed be."
Prosecutor then did his redirect for 2 minutes and it was done.
The TOTAL POS did and excellent job of convicting himself better than any prosecutor could have done.

“Representing yourself” in court never goes well. If lawyers hire other lawyers to represent them, that means it’s a REALLY good idea
