A classmate I hadn't seen in years would just avoid me.

Edit: I forgot I had this account last year and somehow I now have 2.7K karma. Thanks, I guess?

I guess I don't mind the 30 seconds of small talk. I got good at saying "alright it was good seeing you". The key is to start walking as you're saying it.

I posted this elsewhere on Reddit but it's pretty relevant.

After going through basic training through the Air Force, Tech. school, and follow on I finally made it to my first duty station. One thing the Air Force really likes to do is called, "FTAC". The First Term Airmen Center, your one stop shop for all the newbies. It's a week long deal where they show you around the base, the services that the Air Force can offer to you while you're in and most of all getting you to meet new people. After all, you're young, on your own and you don't know anybody.

I ended up meeting this young cop there. We didn't really talk to much to each other since the cops just hung out with their own, just like all the other career fields did. But we always exchanged pleasantries and what not every day. Eventually FTAC ended and we all went our separate ways to our actual jobs.

Fast forward, I'm driving through the main gate manned by cops. And lo and behold the guy scanning ID's was none other than this kid. I never got his name. But we obviously remembered each other's faces.

I hit him with the "Suh dude", and he hit me back with it too. Me being obnoxious I hit him back with a more annoying, "saaah duude", and he did the same. This happened EVERY single time I saw him at the gate. Each reply would just be more and more prolonged and annoying than the last. This would go on till I was driving away from the gate and we'd be screeching at each other unintelligible words.

We would go years literally seeing each other at the chow hall, driving around the flight line, random appointments, parties etc. And we'd say sup or whatever. Never knew this kids name.

It's been years now, and I still don't know his name.
