I grew up in the south and it is baffling to me how I believed the war wasn’t really about slavery but states rights because I heard it so much. Then I took the time to read the ordinance of secession. The main points stated were all about the southern states wanting to keep their slaves and the perceived threat of the federal gov taking them away. This is an easily disproved lie why is it so prevalent.
The US has much of (not all) its roots in the thirteen colonies, which were under British rule for 191 years. That's longer than the confederacy by a long stretch.
